3 Up 3 Down — baseball scorekeeping for iPhone
Last updated: 23 September 2026
3 Up 3 Down keeps baseball scorecards. This policy explains what the app stores, where it goes, and how to get rid of it. It is short because the app collects very little.
What 3 Up 3 Down stores
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| An account identifier | Created automatically the first time you open the app, so your scorecards can be told apart from everyone else's. Until you sign in with Apple it is an anonymous identifier tied to that install and to nothing about you. |
| Your name — only if you sign in with Apple | Apple offers your name once, at first sign-in, and you can decline or supply a different one. It is used to show who is signed in. 3 Up 3 Down does not ask Apple for your email address. |
| The scorecards you create | Team names, player names and positions, and every pitch, at-bat and baserunning event you record, with the times you recorded them. This is the content of the app — what you type is what is stored. |
What 3 Up 3 Down does not collect
- No analytics or usage tracking. There is no analytics SDK in the app.
- No advertising, and no tracking across other apps or websites.
- No email address. Sign in with Apple is asked only for a name.
- No location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera. The app never requests these.
- Nothing is sold or shared for advertising. Ever.
Who else is involved
Google (Firebase)
Scorecards and account identifiers are stored using Google's Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore, which host the data on 3 Up 3 Down's behalf. Access is restricted by security rules so that a scorecard can be read or changed only by the account that created it.
Apple
If you choose to sign in, Apple handles the sign-in and tells 3 Up 3 Down that it succeeded, plus your name if you share it. Apple's own privacy policy covers what Apple does with it.
MLB Stats API
If you import a Major League game's schedule or lineups, 3 Up 3 Down requests them from MLB's public Stats API. Those requests contain only a date or a game identifier. No account identifier and nothing you have typed is ever sent to MLB.
Player names
Scorecards often involve children — youth, school and travel baseball. Player names in 3 Up 3 Down are free text that you type, so if you enter a child's name, that name is stored the same way the rest of the scorecard is.
You never have to. 3 Up 3 Down works with unnamed players: a slot with no name reads as "Batter 5" everywhere, and you can score a whole game that way, or use initials or jersey numbers instead. Names can also be added or changed at any point during a game, and the at-bats already recorded follow along.
3 Up 3 Down is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from a child directly. What it holds is content entered by the person keeping score.
Deleting your data
You can delete individual games at any time by swiping a game in the list.
You can delete your whole account from Account → Delete Account inside the app. This removes every scorecard stored under your account, on every device, and cannot be undone. If you signed in with Apple, deleting also revokes 3 Up 3 Down's access to your Apple ID, so the app stops appearing under Settings → your name → Sign in with Apple.
Keeping data while you use it
Scorecards are kept until you delete them, because a scorecard is a record you may want to look at seasons later. There is no automatic expiry.
Scorecards are also cached on your device so you can score a game with no signal, and they sync when a connection comes back. Deleting the app removes that local copy.
Signing out and anonymous accounts
Until you sign in with Apple, your scorecards belong to an anonymous account tied to that installation of the app. If you delete the app without signing in, those scorecards cannot be recovered — there is no identity attached that would let anyone, including us, give them back to you. Signing in with Apple is what makes them survive a reinstall or a new phone.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be noted in the app.
